Sometimes, just knowing there are others in the same situation can make a world of difference for a patient or caregiver. Having an opportunity to talk to someone who has been through a similar experience can be both encouraging and healing.
The following are some support groups that deal with hearing loss:
The CNI Center for Hearing offers support groups for adults with or considering cochlear implants, as well as for parents whose children either have cochlear implants or are candidates for cochlear implants. If you are interested in learning more about the groups, please contact Judith Stucky at 303-806-7416 or jstucky@TheCNI.org.
CNI Teen ThingThe CNI Teen Thing offers a variety of events and activities for hearing impaired youth in the local community. Underwritten by private and corporate contributions, these opportunities for young people to gather, have fun and learn from each other are invaluable.
For more information on future events, please contact Linda Ellis at dalin31672@aol.com.
Rebuilding Together
The teens frequently participate in "Rebuilding Together" projects - a program that aids low-income senior citizens with repairs and painting in their homes (see below for a recap of last year's activities).
On one of our projects, we had a total of 15 teens and adults participating in painting inside a house to make it beautiful and help to brighten up the rooms. The homeowner was very pleased with our enthusiasm and results to upgrade her home. Her house really needed some painting and we were more then willing to help.
These tasks cannot be accomplished without the teens and adults who come to be part of this project. You can see and feel that it is very important to everyone working, to give a part of themselves to help someone else. That feeling of helping someone, who really deserved to have this project, makes everyone feel proud to accomplish it. In turn, I am proud to have such a caring and gifted team. Thanks to all for making this so wonderful and inspiring.
