Testimonials & Stories
Below are some patient testimonials. Also check out our story on 2011 Hope Award recipients Lisa and Jerry Dowling.
Lan
Lan just finished her therapy at the CNI NeuroHealth Center. She had an intracranial hemorrhage in July and was treated at Swedish Medical Center. After a three-day hospital stay, Lan began rehabilitation at the NeuroHealth Center, accessing speech, occupational and physical therapies. Initially, her balance was quite off with a Berg Balance score of 41/56. However, on "graduation day," her Berg Balance score was a completely normal 56/56. Having met all of her goals, Lan was discharged from her therapy and has returned to her previous responsibilities as a homemaker and mother. Lan and her family are appreciative of the care she received through the NeuroHealth Center's uninsured and underinsured assistance program. The program is funded through grant support and enables patients, who might otherwise have nowhere else to go for therapy, to access the services they need. We congratulate Lan on her accomplishments and commend her for her hard work and diligence.
Richard Like many people these days, Richard worked hard all of his life and then one day found himself between jobs and uninsured. At this most difficult time, the unthinkable happened. Richard, age 64, suffered a stroke. Richard's medical bills were mounting and he needed speech and occupational therapy for his stroke rehab. Fortunately, Colorado Neurological Institute physician Donald F. Frei,MD, connected Richard to CNI, where he has gained access to these services through CNI's uninsured/underinsured patient assistance program. This program is funded with grants from the Spalding Community Foundation, Denver Foundation, and the Denver Post Season to Share Fund, a fund of the McCormick Foundation, along with donations from caring individuals. Because of the services he received at CNI, today Richard is on the way to recovery and feels hopeful again.
Bob "The therapists work you very hard but in a loving and caring way with a lot of encouragement. I tell you what, I really appreciate it!"
Bonnie
"When I needed skilled, practical help with MS-related disability and mobility issues, my doctor recommended CNI and I simply can't say enough for the health care team I have worked with here: each member meets a patient where he or she is, assessing needs and streamlining care with a level of professional competence, insight and compassion that I have never encountered elsewhere. From physiatrists to specialized therapists and orthotists, to kind helpful people scheduling and coordinating patient care, my experience with CNI has been overwhelmingly positive and I now have the tools and knowledge to move forward with my life and return to activities that I feared had become inaccessible to me. Furthermore, I traveled a long distance to work with CNI, and every moment of my interaction with the members of this organization has been coordinated and planned with the utmost efficiency, professionalism and courtesy. My humble gratitude goes to every person I've encountered at CNI, and I would not hesitate to recommend this group of skilled professionals and caring human beings to anyone needing help, direction, treatment planning and effective rehab management for neurological conditions. I look forward to working with the CNI team whenever the need arises, and in full confidence."
Dan, Carrie and Jim "We want you to know that we would NOT have known what we would have done without your caring, compassion and expertise in rehabbing stroke victims. We have been caring for our brother (brother in law) in his post stroke recovery. The hospital was just going to discharge him to us. He had no insurance. He would NOT be recovered from his stroke if we had not been fortunate enough to get into the CNI stroke program. We just can't thank these caring, amazing therapists enough! Every single person at CNI has given Dan so much hope and confidence to face his new life after stroke. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have done for Dan (and us).
Roy “Your staff made me feel comfortable and welcome at all four of my appointments- major factors in dealing with the need for treatment and it’s successful outcome for Parkinson’s patients like me. Debra was very thorough in her analysis of my needs, clearly explaining each step of therapy, going over the results of my swallowing test, and working with me on the exercises. She made sure I would be able to continue the needed exercises at home by recommending the LSVT DVD and a sound level meter. Her caring, professional manner gave me the confidence to continue working on improving my voice.”
Carly “Why cry when you can laugh,” was a saying Carly Lytle used often after her stroke five years ago to keep herself going. After her insurance benefits were exhausted Carly had therapies at the NeuroHealth Center through our grant based program focusing primarily on her walking and hand use. Now 25 years old, Carly has finished her college degree, has a job and has just moved into her own apartment. Carly’s parents have supported the NHC since that time with regular contributions and have been added to our President’s Circle. Regarding her experience at the NeuroHealth Center, Carly says, “CNI made a dramatic difference in my recovery. I would not be where I am today without their care and support.
