NeuroHealth Center Exhibits at Cool Science Festival
It's the largest--and coolest--science festival in Colorado, making it the perfect venue for the CNI NeuroHealth Center to teach kids about balance and the brain.
This was the second year that the CNI NeuroHealth Center has exhibited at the Cool Science Festival, reaching nearly 250 kids and parents. At the fair, which was attended by 4,900, Ellen Belle, MA-PT, Director of the CNI NeuroHealth Center, led an exhibit focusing on "Balance and the Brain," challenging kids to try to balance on a Bosu ball and small inflated discs, and using a balance biofeedback computerized program. Ellen and the kids took time to talk about how both sides of the brain need to work for balance.
Kids also learned that the more they hone their balance skills like dancers and gymnasts, the better their balance will be. The balance activities practiced at the fair are the same activities that patients who have had a stroke, have multiple sclerosis or have Parkinson's disease practice for their rehabilitation at the CNI NeuroHealth Center.
The Cool Science Festival, held October 15-22, celebrates the region's science and technology fabric with a variety of events for all ages, spread across the city of Colorado Springs. For more information about the Cool Science Festival, visit www.coolscience.org.
