Long Term Survivor’s Party
The 8th annual Long Term Survivors Party was held Wednesday, September 20, 2011, at Glenmoor Country Club. Of the 140 people in attendance, 48 were survivors of a high-grade brain tumor who are 3 years or more beyond diagnosis. Spouses, family members and staff helped created a joyous evening that was truly a celebration of life.
As patients signed the guest book, they were presented with a "survivor pin" and asked to gather on the patio for a group photo, followed by dinner. Michael Jordan was acknowledged as a 22-year survivor. Many others were in the double digits. Michael Skiff proudly showed off his new 5-week-old granddaughter, truly something to live for! Former Hope award recipient Andrea Kennedy announced that she is expecting a second child in January.
A cupcake ceremony completed the evening. Each patient was given a cupcake with a candle and a marker indicating the number of years of survival. As they gathered at the front of the room and the candles were lit, the glow of happy faces proved a fitting end to the evening.
