Outreach & Support
HeartStrings Project
The HeartStrings Project began in 2000 and is a special offering of the CNI Center for Brain & Spinal Tumors for patients with a brain tumor (Click here to read why HeartStrings was started).
Hearing the diagnosis of "brain tumor" is a shocking experience--one that can leave you feeling frightened and alone. Few people truly understand what it's like to have a brain tumor or for a loved one to undergo treatment. The HeartStrings Project was started to help you cope with these changes in your life, providing support along the way. Following are some of the programs offered through HeartStrings. For more information on these programs, please contact Lorre Gibson, Program Coordinator for the CNI Center for Brain & Spinal Tumors, at 303.806.7420 or by e-mail.
Spiritual Support Our patient care coordinator is always available to address your spiritual needs. This is supplemented by our Healing Services, held the first Wednesday of each month (except in May when we offer our Annual Reflecting the Light service) in the first-floor chapel at Swedish Medical Center from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Support Group Our monthly brain tumor support group for patients, caregivers and families gathers the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the conference room center at Swedish Medical Center.
Staff Support CNI Center for Brain & Spinal Tumors staff members are here for you every step of the way. Surgical waiting room visits by members of the staff are a part of the care and support we offer to caregivers and families.
Patient Assistance Program Our Patient Assistance Program helps patients who may find themselves in financial need through no fault of their own. Other needs are met on a case-by-case basis.
Therapy Throws Do you knit, crochet or quilt, or do you know someone who does? We're looking for you! These special talents can be used to benefit brain tumor patients. The Colorado Neurological Institute Center for Brain & Spinal Tumors could use your skills. We're accepting your handmade (machine washable and dryable) blankets and will present them to new brain tumor patients. Feel free to drop off your items at 701 East Hampden Avenue, Suite 415, Englewood, CO 80113.
