The CNI Center for Hearing
The CNI Center for Hearing provides high-quality, comprehensive care for patients living with a wide variety of ear disorders utilizing a collaborative team approach that brings together top specialists from various disciplines, including a fellowship-trained neurotologist (ear surgeon), audiologists, neurosurgeons, speech-language therapists, psychologists, physical therapists and auditory-verbal therapists. These experts work together to provide highly coordinated and personalized care that addresses the full range of each patient’s diagnostic and treatment needs.
As the largest, most comprehensive cochlear implant program in the region, the CNI Center for Hearing offers advanced resources and technology to improve sound detection and communication abilities for both children and adults with severe or profound hearing loss. The Center is active in research for the development of new cochlear implant devices and serves as a leading training facility for physicians from North, South and Central America.
The CNI Center for Hearing is one of the leading facilities in the United States for the treatment of hearing loss and disorders of the ear. In addition to offering options such as traditional and implantable hearing aids, the Center for Hearing is a leading facility for cochlear implants. Cochlear implants, a technological miracle that brings the recipient from the deaf world to the hearing world, has been shown to be one of the most cost-effective, advanced medical technologies in the world today.
In Colorado alone, an estimated 1,750 individuals are potential cochlear implant candidates. The cochlear implant is an alternative that may allow these patients to maintain and/or continue to develop their ability to communicate through spoken word. Of the 35 Colorado infants born hearing impaired each year, three will be born with a hearing impairment so profound that hearing aids would be of no value to them. Only with the use of a cochlear implant will these children have the opportunity to hear and learn to speak intelligently with their families, their teachers, their peers and their employers.
The CNI Center for Hearing performs an average of 40 cochlear implant procedures annually, with a large number of the recipients being children aged 1 to 14 years. The Center has participated in research projects resulting in FDA approval of cochlear implants as well as other issues related to ear disorders and hearing loss.
